MC4 has almost become synonymous with photovoltaic connectors. MC4 can be found in modules, bus and inverters and other important components of photovoltaic power generation, which are responsible for the successful connection of power stations.
In 2002, the MC4 redefined the PV connector once again with its true “Plug and play” approach. The insulation is made of rigid plastics (PC/PA) and is designed to be easy to assemble and install in the field. MC4 quickly gained market recognition and gradually became the standard for photovoltaic connectors.
The MC4 series of connectors have been fully capable of meeting customer requirements for 1500V photovoltaic systems.
MC4 connector is divided into wire end and board end, generally speaking, we refer to the MC4 wire end. MC4 is composed of metal parts and insulating parts.
As mentioned earlier, MC is short for multi-contact and 4 is the diameter of the metal core. Therefore, in the pv connector market, there needs to be a new clarification of the many so-called MC4S, which may be more appropriately referred to as “Mc4-like”.
Apart from some cosmetic differences (shape /logo, etc.), the MC4 differs from the “Mc4-like” core in the use of MULTILAM technology. The long-term stability of MULTILAM ensures that the connector maintains a consistently low contact resistance throughout the life cycle of the photovoltaic system.
